Riptide (J-30) was named for the word that describes a surface disturbance of water caused by tides and currents- a common occurrence in the San Juan Islands. He was a member of Ruffle (J-1)'s family and seemed to spend a great deal of time with him. Riptide (J-30) did not return to the inland wates in February of 2012 and it is thought that he died sometime that winter.
