Spock was thought to be a male for many years because of the shape of her dorsal fin. In December 2004, she had her first known offspring, Comet (K-38), proving that she is indeed a female. When K Pod returned to the Salish Sea in July of 2022, it was confirmed by the Center for Whale Research that Spock had a new calf, Prosper (K-45)!
