The San Juan Islands are a great place for birding! Late winter is a time to see marine birds just before they begin their journey to the breeding grounds and are beginning to go into breeding plumage and start courting. Raptors are seen in abundance and some are already on the nest. Terrestrial birds are just starting to tune up their courtship songs. Whether you are wanting to continue your education as a Naturalist or simply have an interest in birds, this workshop provides a great opportunity to learn about identifying birds in their winter plumage, groups and species of birds, their needs, behaviors, and habitats, as well as migration and population patterns through a combination of hands-on field experience and classroom learning.

The course begins on Friday afternoon and runs through Sunday afternoon. It includes two evening lectures and day field trips. Classroom presentations will take place at The Whale Museum in Friday Harbor, WA. Transportation within Friday Harbor for local field trips is included in costs.
