Mega's life spanned 42 years. He was part of an L Pod subgroup, commonly called the L11s/L12s. From early summer through September they were often seen along the west side of San Juan Island. Mega stood out due to his size and his tall dorsal fin. In the winter they were often seen with all of L Pod and sometimes with K Pod off the coast of Oregon and Washington; as far south as making short visits to Monterey Bay, California.
