The Gear Down Workshop will focus on current issues affecting the Southern
Resident orcas. Invited presenters include:

  • Kenneth Warheit (WDFW) on regulations and practices regarding net pen fisheries and farmed salmon;
  • San Juan County Staff on SJC Marine Resource Committee regulations and updates on the pilot flag study;
  • Soundwatch Coordinator Taylor Shedd (TWM) on characterizing foraging behavior in SRKWs using aerial drones;
  • Other presenters TBD.

Join us after the workshop at Mike’s Café & Wine Bar on Saturday for a no-host reception.

The Whale Museum's 3rd Annual Research Symposium

  • Dr. Shawn Larson (TWM) on whale sightings hotline and data;
  • Jennifer Olson (TWM) on marine mammal strandings and the San Juan County Marine Mammal Stranding Network;
  • Elizabeth Seely (TWM) and Taylor Shedd (TWM) on the Soundwatch Boater Education Program as well as recent experience with J35; 
  • Other presenters TBD.

Registration fee is $35 for non-members; $25 for TWM or SSAMN members.

Don't forget - Lunch can be pre-ordered for $10 per day.
